What comes in your mind, when you hear about the Moringa tree? Some people call it the all-multi-purpose tree, some call it the “miracle tree” and for others just another simple existing tree on mother earth. According to Wikipedia, Moringa oleifera is a fast –growing, drought resistant tree of the family Moringaceae. Common names include Moringa, drumstick tree ( from the long , slender, triangular seed-pods), horseradish tree ( from the taste of the roots, which resembles horseradish), and ben oil tree or benzolive tree ( from the oil which is derived from the seeds).It is widely cultivated for its young seed pods and leaves used as vegetables and for traditional herbal medicine. It is also used for water purification.
While many people consider the Moringa Tree, as just another simple existing plant, Leena Sindano, founder of Chizango Trading Cc have a complete different perspective on it. Leena Sindano is a Graduate of MA economics from the University of Pune in India (2012), she is also one of the few selected recipient for the Alumni of Young African Leadership Programme (YALI). This has enable her to complete a Business Programme through YALI at the University of South Africa Business School in 2016.In the same year (2016) the confident Leena Sindano was inspired by her parents to venture in business because she was unemployed. This is when the spark of the Moringa Project Commenced. The founder was inspired by her parents to start business when she was unemployed and at that time the super-crop known as Moringa ‘the miracle tree,’ was a well know supplement in Rundu Town, because of its health benefit that improves the health and wellness of the people. It is mostly found in the northern part of Namibia. The project got motivated more by producing various products from the tree making it available nationwide including where the tree is not found, as well as present it with more products. Chizango trading won the best innovative idea at the MSME conference 2017 hosted by ABC Academy & KONARD.It is also a Member of the Namibian Network of the Cosmetics Industry and African Woman Agribusiness Network.
History have it that, our forefathers used the Moringa tree as a well nutritional supplement, because of its health benefit that improves the well-being of the people. However, as the years went down the line most of the masses lost this incredible knowledge & to make matters worse, the miracle tree (Moringa) vanished or stopped growing in a variety of places as it used to grow back then. But thanks to great mind, such as those of Ms Leena Sindano who came on board to educate the masses on the importance and health benefit that the Moringa tree offers.
